The Mountain is Open!
Ride the first regularly-scheduled passenger trains to Trout Brook in Alna since 1933
Duration
1.5 Hours (or more!)
About the Experience
Board your train at Sheepscot station for a steam-powered ride through the wild pine forests, farmlands and hamlets of the Sheepscot Valley to Top of Mountain where you’ll want to join our friends from SeaLyon Farm for our Annual Picnic.
At the picnic, feast (and drink) the offerings by The Wicked Tater and Maine Tasting Center. Other activities include the SeaLyon farm stand store, games, etc.
Or, stay aboard and ride “all the way” to Trout Brook station over the 3/4-mile “Mountain Extension”. This will be the first time regularly-scheduled passenger trains have traversed these rails since 1933!
You may opt to stay at Top of Mountain for food and games between trains, and watch (and hear) the steam locomotives challenge the 4% grade leading into the station.
After the train ride, food, fun and festivities, we’ll all return back to Sheepscot station where you’ll want to explore our railyard, examine our displays, and peruse our gift shop. The entire experience takes about 90 minutes, or if you want to hang out at Top of Mountain, return on the next train for a 3.5 hour experience.
Ticket price includes the historic steam train as well as parking at Sheepscot. All food, additional refreshments, goodies, beverages, and other farm products are sold separately by SeaLyon Farm and their partners. Note that due to the nature of this event, wheelchairs can not be accommodated at Top of Mountain. However, those with mobility issues are welcome to stay (and eat) on the train.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on this train, at the discretion of the Conductor.
The special Annual Picnic trains depart Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) hourly from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Please anticipate traffic conditions on Route 1 in Wiscasset.
We look forward to seeing you on the narrow gauge!
